DIVISION B - JUDGE JEFFERSON JOYCE

The Honorable Jefferson B. Joyce was born in Monroe, Louisiana on March 17, 1975, to Mrs. Gay Joyce Morris and the late Judge John R. Joyce. He graduated from Neville High School in 1993 and continued his studies at Tulane University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in History in 1997. Judge “Jeff” Joyce attended law school at Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and earned his Juris Doctorate in 2000. Judge Joyce then returned to Monroe, where he maintained a private practice for over ten years. Prior to taking the bench, he practiced law with the firm of Crawford & Anzelmo, which later became Crawford & Joyce.

Judge Joyce began his judicial career in 2010 when he was elected Judge of Division “B” of Monroe City Court. He was re-elected in 2014 without opposition. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and has served as President of the Young Lawyers of the Fourth Judicial District Court and was named an Outstanding Young Lawyer. He has served as President of the Fourth Judicial District Bar Association, President of the Louisiana City Judges Association, and has served on several committees and boards designed to move the judicial system forward, including the New Judges Mentor Committee. In addition to professional committees, he has volunteered to serve on many community awareness committees and has been an American Red Cross board member for many years. On many occasions, Judge Joyce has served as a panelist/speaker/lecturer at conferences and continuing education seminars.

Judge Joyce is patient and always listens to both sides that come before him. He strives to rehabilitate offenders and lower recidivism. Judge Joyce exhibits fairness to all people before him, regardless of race, religious affiliation or societal influence. He believes that it is important to help people move forward during their judicial experience rather than falling backward.

Judge Joyce is a lifelong native of Monroe, which is where he resides with his wife, Kathryn Amman Joyce. He has two children, Lillian Amman Joyce, age 14, and Kathryn Virginia Joyce (2008-2015).
